HC Deb 06 May 1901 vol 93 cc764-83
MR. JOHN DEWAR (Inverness)

I beg to ask the Lord Advocate if he will state the number of acres which have been added to the deer forest area in Inverness-shire since the Deer Forest Commissioners issued their Report; and will he say how much of the land which was scheduled in Inverness-shire as suitable for the settlement of the people is now in the occupation of crofters and cottars.

*MR. A. GRAHAM MURRAY

I would refer the hon. Member to a Return giving the name and other particulars in respect of each deer forest in the six Highland crofting counties which, after much trouble and expense, was prepared and issued in the session of 1899—Parliamentary Paper No. 346. It would be difficult to obtain accurately the information which the hon. Member now desires, and the Secretary for Scotland does not consider that the usefulness of such a Return would be at all commensurate with the trouble and expense that would be involved by its collection and preparation.
