HC Deb 06 May 1901 vol 93 c767
MR. WEIR

I beg to ask the Lord Advocate, as representing the Secretary for Scotland, whether proceedings have been taken by Major Matheson against the landless cottars of Bernera, who recently signified their intention of taking possession of Croir Farm, Bernera, Island of Lewis, which they were led to believe would be available when the late tenant's lease expired in July last; and whether he is aware that the farm was for many years in the occupation of the people, and that the present applicants are prepared to pay fair rentals for the land.

*MR. A. GRAHAM MURRAY

The answer to the first paragraph of the hon. Member's question is in the affirmative, though I have no knowledge regarding the allegation made therein. The statement made in the second paragraph does not affect the matter, as Croir Farm is let on lease.
