§ 18. Mr. Sorensenasked the President of the Board of Education whether, in view of the aerial bombing of reception areas or of towns hitherto assumed to be suitable for evacuated schools or children he is reconsidering the whole question of child evacuation; whether any immediate transferences are to take place; and whether he is making any further plans respecting accommodation, the supply of teachers and curricula to cover the future period of the war?
§ Mr. ButlerOn the first and second parts of the Question I would refer the hon. Member to the answer given by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Health to the hon. Member for Westhoughton (Mr. Rhys Davies) on 7th May. The matters referred to in the third part of the Question are constantly under review.
§ Mr. SorensenIn view of the prolongation of the war and the new circumstances, would it not be wise to review the whole situation and draw up some interim plan between now and the end of the war?
§ Mr. ButlerAs I said, the matters referred to in the third part of the Question are under review, and in the case of other parts, I am constantly in touch with my right hon. Friend with a view to the developing circumstances of the war.
§ Mr. LoganWill the right hon. Gentleman make arrangements in the areas that have been blitzed for establishing a central school to replace schools that have been blitzed so that the children can attend school?
§ Mr. ButlerThe local authority has to make special arrangements in every case, and the hon. Member may rest assured that we are in touch with the local authorities, who are doing their best to meet the different circumstances.
