HC Deb 03 November 1909 vol 12 cc1809-10
Mr. SUMMERBELL

asked the Postmaster-General whether, last Christmas, school teachers and others in regular employment were given preference over suitable unemployed for the season pressure owing to their greater geographical knowledge; and, if so, whether he will direct that the terms of his instructions to officials, that suitable unemployed are to be given preference over those already in employment, shall be fully carried out?

The POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. Sydney Buxton)

I have recently issued special instructions that wherever possible unemployed suitable for the work are to be engaged for Christmas pressure in preference to other persons, and I have no reason to suppose that the instructions will not be duly complied with.
