HC Deb 03 November 1909 vol 12 c1810
Mr. HUNT

asked the Postmaster-General whether, in view of the fact that many of the aged poor are in a state of anxiety as to whether their old age pensions will be stopped, he could see his way to having conspicuous notices posted up in all places where old age pensions are payable, to the effect that such pensions are just as much a charge on the revenue of the country as are pensions paid to soldiers and sailors?

Mr. BUXTON

It would not fall to the Post Office to issue such a notice as that to which the Hon. Member refers.

Mr. HUNT

May I ask why the Government refuse to take a cheap and easy means of relieving the anxiety of the aged poor?

Mr. LESLIE RENTON

May I ask if it is a fact that there are already notices displayed in all offices that the State guarantees the Public Trustee, and whether that cannot be done in this case?

Mr. BUXTON

It does not seem to be necessary.

Mr. RENTON

Not in view of the reign of terror that exists?
