HC Deb 10 May 1909 vol 4 c1443
Mr. CATHCART WASON

asked the Postmaster-General if he could state approximately the cost involved in Sunday delivery of letters throughout Scotland; the number of postmen who were employed on that day; and the number of post offices that were compelled to be open at certain times, thereby depriving the postmasters from ever enjoying a Sunday rest?

Mr. BUXTON

It would be a matter of considerable labour and expense to ascertain the cost of Sunday delivery in Scotland and the actual number of postmen employed on that day. It is my wish to discourage Sunday labour as far as possible in the Post Office, and with that object I have lately considerably modified the Sunday arrangements at certain places in Scotland.
