HC Deb 10 May 1909 vol 4 c1447
Mr. JOHN MURPHY

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if he could state how many persons who had signed agreements for purchase on the Kenmare estate, county Kerry, were processed at the last Killarney Quarter Sessions; and how would the amounts be recovered in such cases if the defaulters did not pay?

The ATTORNEY-GENERAL for IRELAND (Mr. Cherry)

The Land Commission inform me that on the estate of Lord Kenmare there were 1,630 cases in which purchase agreements having been signed, interest was payable up to 1st November last. One thousand five hundred and eighty-five of the purchasers paid their interest on demand in the usual way. Proceedings have been taken against the 45 persons in arrear. In 42 of these cases proceedings were taken by the Commissioners in the county courts, and in 27 of these cases the amount due has, up to the 5th instant, been paid by the Land Commission. Decrees have been obtained in the 15 remaining cases. If the amounts are not paid proceedings will be continued. In the other three cases, the debt being over £20, proceedings were instituted in the superior court. The arrear due has been paid in one case.
