HC Deb 10 May 1909 vol 4 cc1446-7
Mr. REES

asked whether the Secretary of State for India had received a memorial from the European and Anglo-Indian De- fence Association, of Calcutta, praying for adequate and substantial non-official European representation in the new Legislative Councils; and, if so, what action had been, or would be, taken on such memorial?

Mr. HOBHOUSE (in the absence of Mr. Buchanan)

A memorial to the effect mentioned in the question has been received. It should have been forwarded to the Secretary of State through the Government of India; and the memorialists have been so informed. They have been told, at the same time, that the matter will be considered when a communication is received through the prescribed channel.
