§ Mr. REESasked whether the Secretary of State for India had received a memorial from the European and Anglo-Indian De- 1447 fence Association, of Calcutta, praying for adequate and substantial non-official European representation in the new Legislative Councils; and, if so, what action had been, or would be, taken on such memorial?
§ Mr. HOBHOUSE (in the absence of Mr. Buchanan)A memorial to the effect mentioned in the question has been received. It should have been forwarded to the Secretary of State through the Government of India; and the memorialists have been so informed. They have been told, at the same time, that the matter will be considered when a communication is received through the prescribed channel.
