HC Deb 04 March 1909 vol 1 c1564
Mr. FLYNN

asked whether the Estates Commissioners are yet in a position to say what steps have been taken towards the acquisition of the untenanted lands of Gurrane, Garryduff, and Templemary, on the Fuge estate, county Cork, with a view to the reinstatement of evicted tenants, allotments of land to qualified labourers, and enlargement of uneconomic holdings under the provision of the Acts of 1903 and 1907?

Mr. BIRRELL

As regards the lands of Templemary, I would refer the hon. Member to my reply to a question asked by him on 3rd December last. A petition praying that the other lands referred to in the question be not acquired compulsorily has been filed and is awaiting determination.

Mr. FLYNN

Are the Commissioners aware that this case is typical of a great many others in which the landlord is willing to sell the untenanted portions if he can get money advanced for the tenanted land, and can the right hon. Gentleman see his way to expedite the proceedings in these matters?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Commissioners are pretty well acquainted with what are typical cases and what are not. I will call their attention to what the hon. Member says.
