HC Deb 04 March 1909 vol 1 cc1564-5
Mr. FLYNN

asked whether the Estates Commissioners can now state what action has been taken in respect to the proposed acquisition of the whole or part of the untenanted lands of the Leader estate, Dromagh, county Cork, with a view to pro- curing holdings for evicted tenants of the adjoining district, enlargement of existing uneconomic holdings, and allotments for industrious labourers; and whether, having regard to the fact that purchase agreements were signed by the settled tenants over four years ago, the Commissioners will expedite the completion of the purchase transaction so as to open the way for the acquisition of the untenanted lands?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Estates Commissioners have had a preliminary inspection made of the untenanted land on this estate, and have intimated the price they are prepared to advance, but the owner is not willing to sell at the price offered.
