HC Deb 04 March 1909 vol 1 c1566
Mr. O'SHAUGHNESSY

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if he can say whether he made any representation to the Commissioners of National Education in Ireland to contribute the cost of repair of the schoolhouse for the boys at Rathkeale, in the county of Limerick, having regard to the fact that the manager has signified his willingness to vest it in trustees on that condition, and having regard to the fact that the locality in years past subscribed £800, the total cost of the building; and, if so, can he say whether the Commissioners are willing to act on his representation?

Mr. BIRRELL

I have nothing to add to the reply which I gave to the question asked by the hon. Member on this subject on 2nd June last.

Mr. O'SHAUGHNESSY

May I ask whether the right hon. Gentleman could not appeal to the Commissioners to contribute?

Mr. BIRRELL

I really cannot interfere with the discretion of the Commissioners in a matter of this kind.

Mr. O'SHAUGHNESSY

Did the right hon. Gentleman make representations to the Commissioners?

Mr. BIRRELL

I communicated with the Commissioners, and I cannot do anything further in the matter.
