HC Deb 04 March 1909 vol 1 c1566
Mr. LONSDALE

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether, having regard to the increase in the number of outrages with firearms reported since the expiry of the Peace Preservation Act, he will cause special inquiries to be made by the police with regard to the traffic in rifles and revolvers now being carried on in some parts of Ireland, and specially with regard to the sale of such weapons on the instalment plan?

Mr. BIRRELL

This matter has not escaped the notice of the police, who are giving it careful attention.

Mr. LONSDALE

I beg to ask the right hon. Gentleman whether he does not consider, in view of what was stated by Lord Crewe in another place, that the introduction—[Cries of "Order," amid which the remainder of the question was inaudible in the Press Gallery.] Addressing Mr. Deputy-Speaker, Mr. Lonsdale said: Am I in order in asking a question of that kind?

Mr. DEPUTY-SPEAKER

The form of the hon. Gentleman's supplementary question was not in order.
