HC Deb 26 July 1909 vol 8 c853
Mr. WEIR

asked the Lord Advocate if he will state the number of applications received by the Congested Districts Board for crofter holdings on Vatersay, Inverness-shire; will all the men who suffered imprisonment receive new holdings; and, if not, will the Secretary for Scotland state how many of these men have had their applications refused, and the cause of such refusal?

The LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. Ure)

The total number of applicants was 83; all of the men who were imprisoned, except two, have been accepted as tenants of holdings. For the answer to the last part of my hon. Friend's question I can only refer him to the reply given to the hon. Member for the College Division of Glasgow on the 22nd inst.

Mr. WEIR

Can the right hon. Gentleman give me the total number of applicants for these lands in Vatersay?

Mr. URE

Eighty-three.

Mr. WATT

Were some of the successful applicants imported from the mainland?

Mr. URE

It is incorrect to say they were imported from the mainland. Some of them were resident on the mainland at the time they made their application.
