HC Deb 26 July 1909 vol 8 c834
Mr. CATHCART WASON

asked the Postmaster-General whether, in permitting the Highland Railway Company to time their trains to arrive at Wick and Thurso for Orkney at a later hour than previously, he has any means of enforcing the contract or arrangement entered into; and whether, in view of the inconvenience caused to the public of Wick and Thurso for Orkney by the constant delay of the mail train, he will either pay the railway company an adequate sum for the conveyance of the mails or consider the question of an alternative fast steamer service from Aberdeen to Wick and Stromness or Kirk-wall?

Mr. BUXTON

As I have already informed my hon. Friend, I have agreed to the revised arrangements on the Highland Railway as an experiment for the present season, and the whole matter will be carefully watched and reviewed at the end of the summer.
