HC Deb 14 July 1909 vol 7 cc2019-20
Mr. MEYSEY-THOMPSON

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if he will state the reason for the proposed re-establishment of any reserved list of colonels, Royal Marines, pending which Colonel Onslow's name has been retained on the active list contrary to regulations, seeing that the current Navy List shows that the Royal Marines have 13 generals, of whom only one is employed, 10 colonels, and 20 lieutenant-colonels; and will he state whether the existing number of senior officers is found sufficient for the general requirements of the Royal Marine forces?

Mr. McKENNA

As regards the first part of the question, the proposal to re-institute a reserved list of colonels, R.M., has been made with a view to widening the field of selection for the post of deputy-adjutant-general. The reply to the second part of the question is in the affirmative.
