HC Deb 14 July 1909 vol 7 c2019
Mr. MEYSEY-THOMPSON

asked the right hon. Gentleman whether, in view of the anxiety existing throughout the corps of Royal Marines owing to uncertainty with regard to the intentions of the Admiralty further to reduce the corps, he can see his way to circulate papers explaining the exact policy of the Board.

Mr. McKENNA

I am unaware of any cause for uncertainty with regard to the intentions of the Admiralty. The numbers are fixed year by year according to requirements.

Mr. MEYSEY-THOMPSON

Is it the intention of the Admiralty to extinguish the Royal Marines Corps?

Mr. McKENNA

No, Sir. I have stated repeatedly there is no such intention.

Mr. ASHLEY

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that for the last four years they have been reduced every year?

Mr. McKENNA

I have repeatedly answered similar questions on the subject.
