HC Deb 25 May 1908 vol 189 cc737-8
MR. J. P. FARRELL (Longford, N.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether the lands of Toneymore, County Longford, are about being acquired compulsorily under the Evicted Tenants Act of last year; and, if so, will a first claim on these lands be given to those evicted tenants in North Longford who are as yet unprovided for. (Answered by Mr. Birrell.) The Estates Commissioners do not propose to take any steps for the compulsory acquirement of this untenanted land for the purpose of restoring evicted tenants, because it appears that all the land available would be required for the enlargement of the numerous small holdings in the neighbourhood.
