HC Deb 19 March 1908 vol 186 c777
CAPTAIN CRAIG (Down, E.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, if he intends to proceed with the Second Reading of the Coal Mines (Eight Hours) Bill; and if he is aware of the number of memorials against the measure being daily received by Members from all parts of Ireland.

MR. GLADSTONE

The answer to the first part of the Question is in the affirmative. As to the second, I have received three memorials from Ireland, but I do not know how other hon. Members have fared.

CAPTAIN CRAIG

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware of the grave inconvenience which is being caused and the difficulty of entering into contracts for future delivery while the Government are wobbling on this subject?

MR. GLADSTONE

I am quite satisfied there is no inconvenience.

CAPTAIN CRAIG

Will the right hon. Gentleman make inquiries in Ireland?

MR. STANLEY WILSON (Yorkshire, E.R., Holderness)

And in England, too?

[No Answer was returned.]
