HC Deb 17 February 1908 vol 184 c405
MR. REES (Montgomery Boroughs)

To ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he proposes during the present session so to amend the law relating to the maintenance of relatives as to provide that persons who have been served with an order to contribute to the support of a relative shall be liable on a second appearances for failure to comply with such order to imprisonment with hard labour.

(Answered by Mr. John Burns.) I may refer to the Answer which I gave on 24th June last to a Question put to me on this subject by my hon. friend. As I then stated, I do not think that legislation should be proposed with regard to the matter pending the Report of the Royal Commission on the Poor Law, who have before them the question of the contributions which should be made by persons for the support of their relatives.
