§ MR. B. S. STRAUS (Tower Hamlets, Mile End)To ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he could give the amount of 2½ per cent. Consols outstanding on 1st February this year and on 1st February, 1907.
(Answered by Mr. Asquith.) The amount of 2½ per cent. Consolidated Stock outstanding on 1st February, 1907, was £584,095,405 2s. 6d. To give the corresponding figure on the 1st instant would involve giving information respecting debt reduction within the current financial year, for which I must ask my hon. friend to wait for the Budget Statement.
