HC Deb 06 May 1907 vol 173 c1306
SIR CHARLES DILKE (Gloucestershire, Forest of Dean)

To ask the Secretary of State for War if he can throw light on the causes of the apparent increase of military offences in the cavalry of the line as compared with the decrease in the Army generally.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Haldane.) It is very difficult to state exactly the causes of the increase mentioned, which is not a large increase, amounting to forty-eight out of a total of 607. The number of recruits taken last year was 3,664,as compared with 2,375 in the previous year, and this increase in the number of men just beginning their service would appear to have had a corresponding result in respect of military offences.
