HC Deb 18 March 1907 vol 171 c441
MR. DOLAN (Leitrim, N.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that the receiver on the Abraham Evans Estate, situate at Killooman, barony of Dromahair, County of Leitrim, has demanded rent from the tenants, notwithstanding his undertaking that they would not be called on to pay rent pending the negotiations for the sale of the estate; whether he is aware that Judge Ross has promised to sell the estate to the Land Commission; and will he take steps to have the interests of the tenants safeguarded pending the sale.

(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) I am informed by the Registrar of the Land Judge's Court that the Judge has given no directions that rent is not to be collected pending the negotiations for the sale of this estate. Mr. Justice Ross has not promised to sell the estate to the Land Commission, but he has issued a request to the Commission, under Section 40 of the Act of 1896, with a view to the sale to each tenant of his own holding. As soon as the Land Commission have furnished their Report the Land Judge will proceed with the matter in accordance with the provisions of the section quoted.
