HC Deb 25 July 1907 vol 179 cc129-30
Mr. STARKEY

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies how many British officials are charged with the duty of inspecting the Trinidad labourers indentured to work upon the Panama Canal, during their absence from the Island of Trinidad.

MR. HERBERT SAMUEL (for Mr. Churchill)

None, Sir; but there is of course a British Consul at Panama.

MR. STARKEY

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies what are the legal holidays to which Trinidad labourers, working under indenture on the Panama Canal, are entitled.

MR. HERBERT SAMUEL (for Mr. Churchill)

The Secretary of State is not in a position to give the hon. Member the information asked for in the Question.
