HC Deb 08 July 1907 vol 177 cc1154-5
SIR LEWIS McIVER (Edinburgh, W.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India whether the decision of the Secretary of State on the proposed dismemberment of the Madras Railway was taken on the recommendation of the Government of India and the Indian Railway Board, and whether the opinion of the Madras Government was taken; and, if so, whether the Madras Government approved of the proposed action.

MR. MORLEY

The decision of the Secretary of State in Council on the proposed dismemberment of the Madras Railway was taken on the recommendation of the Government of India and of the Indian Railway Board. He also had before him the views and suggestions of the Government of Madras, as communicated by them to the Government of India, though the scheme adopted was not that suggested by the local government.
