HC Deb 27 August 1907 vol 182 cc401-2
MR. GRETTON (Rutland)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Education when it is expected that the Return dealing with the square-foot basis of accommodation in public elementary schools will be issued.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION (Mr. MCKENNA, Monmouthshire, N.)

I do not know to what Return the hon. Member is referring; but, as I have already intimated, the fresh consideration of the premises of all the many thousands of elementary schools that are on the eight-foot basis and the reassessment of their accommodation in a manner that shall afford not less than nine square-feet for infants and ten for older scholars must be a slow process, and I cannot yet name a date by which we can hope for it to be completed.

MR. GRETTON

Was any action taken by the Board of Education on the lines indicated before the issue of the Return?

MR. McKENNA

There is no Return of all the schools, but each school is being dealt with separately.
