HC Deb 27 August 1907 vol 182 c401
MR. A. E. W. MASON (Coventry)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been called to the proposed Australian tariff on English bicycles amounting in many cases to 100 per cent. ad valorem; and whether any, and if any, what, steps are in contemplation to prevent a prohibitive barrier being raised against British goods by a British Colony.

* MR. LLOYD-GEORGE

My attention has been called to the now Australian tariff rate on British bicycles, and I have invited representatives of the Coventry Chamber of Commerce to discuss the matter with the Board of Trade, and I understand that it has been arranged that they should see me to-morrow. Steps will be taken in duo course to represent to the Australian Government the views of the British traders in regard to the tariff.
