HC Deb 30 April 1907 vol 173 cc680-1
Mr. HORNIMAN (Chelsea)

To ask the Secretary of State for War, as there is ample space on the site near Dover, why is not accommodation provided for the same number of boys as are now at the Duke of York's School, in Chelsea; is it proposed to pay for those transferred to the Queen Victoria Memorial School in Scotland; for what reason is it that the boys are to be transferred to another charity; and is this part of the original scheme.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Haldane.) The new school will consist of eight houses of sixty boys. It was considered that, in view of the establishment of the Queen Victoria School, the increased capital and annual expenditure involved by the construction of a ninth house would not be necessary. This arrangement is a modification of the original scheme. It is not proposed to effect any of the necessary reduction of establishment by transfers to the Queen Victoria School.
