HC Deb 07 November 1906 vol 164 c526
DR. HAZEL

To ask the Secretary of State for India whether his attention has been drawn to the appointment of a junior professor of the Presidency College at. Calcutta to be principal of that college, in supersession of the claims of two senior professors, one of whom has already previously officiated as principal and also acted as Director of Public Instruction in Assam; and whether, in view of the fact that nothing unfavour able is on record against either of the officers so superseded, he will inquire into the circumstances of the case before the office of principal becomes permanently vacant in January next.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Morley.) The selection of an officer for this officiating appointment was made by the Local Government in the exercise of their discretion, and I see at present no reason to interfere with their decision.
