HC Deb 01 November 1906 vol 163 c1324
COLONEL LOCKWOOD (Essex, Epping)

On behalf of the hon. Member for the City of London, I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies why the provisions of Section 20 of the Finance Act of 1894 have not been made applicable to the Transvaal.

MR. CHURCHILL

Section 20 of the Finance Act, 1894, cannot be applied to the Transvaal unless and until the law governing the levying of Estate Duty in that Colony has been modified. It was found impracticable to introduce the necessary legislation during the late session of the Legislative Council, and the question will, therefore, remain to be considered by the new Legislature.
