§ It is known that the larger proportion of hops grown in the United States is grown in the Western States, but no
1516§ each of the years 1900–5, stating the-proportion shipped [direct from the-Pacific Coast, grown on the Pacific Coast, but shipped from the Atlantic Coast, and grown elsewhere than on the Pacific Coast, and the proportion grown or picked by Chinese labour; and, in the event of the necessary information not being available, whether he will take steps to obtain it from the British consular officers for embodiment in future Trade Returns.
§ (Answered by Mr. Lloyd-George.) The following statement gives the information asked for as regards the imports of hops into the United Kingdom directly from the Atlantic and Pacific Coasts of the United States respectively:—
§ official information is available either as to the place of growth of the hops exported to the United Kingdom or the 1517 character of the labour by which they were grown or picked. In the absence of any official United States statistics bearing upon these points, it mould be impossible for His Majesty's consular officers to procure the information desired.
