HC Deb 28 March 1906 vol 154 c1278
MR. EDWARD BARRY (Cork County, S.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether, seeing that a promise has been given to send immediately inspectors to South Cork and other constituencies, arrangements have been made by the Estates Commissioners to institute full and exhaustive inquiries into the circumstances of all the evicted tenants in those constituencies; whether it is the intention of the Estates Commissioners to instruct their inspectors, when visiting those districts, to invite the assistance of the local Member and other representative men when interviewing and negotiating between present occupiers, if any, evicted tenants, and the landlords of the estates from which they were evicted; and, if | not, will stops be taken to issue Instructions to do so with a view of eliciting such information as would lead to and facilitate the reinstatement of the tenants on their former holdings.

MR. BRYCE

I beg to refer to my reply to the hon. Member's Question of the 26th February. No promise to send inspectors to South Cork immediately has been given, but the Estates Commissioners will prosecute inquiries into the cases of all evicted tenants who have made application to them, as rapidly as possible. The nature of the inquiries which the Commissioners propose to make is indicated in Part IV. of the Instructions to Inspectors which were recently laid on the Table.
