HC Deb 26 March 1906 vol 154 c873
MR. JOHN DEWAR (Inverness)

I beg to ask the Secretary for Scotland if the Congested Districts Board is now prepared to give a grant to the Skye District Committee to aid in the formation of a road to connect Portree with the populous district of Staffin; and if he is aware that the delay in the formation of this road has hindered the development of the diatomite industry in this district.

THE SECRETARY FOR SCOTLAND (Mr. SINCLAIR,) Forfarshire

The Congested Districts Board have not seen their way to incur the expenditure involved in a grant for the construction of this road. They have been assured that the diatomite would never be carried by road to Portree, ten miles for shipment, when it can be shipped on the spot.
