To ask the Secretary to the Treasury what is the total amount of money received by the Woods and Forests Department in respect of does on gravel taken from gravel beds situated in the estuary of the Taw and Torridge, in North Devon.

(Answered by Mr McKenna.) Such part of the foreshore in the estuary of the Taw and Torridge as is under the management of the Commissioners of Woods, together with certain foreshore of the sea south of the estuary, also under the management of those Commissioners, has been leased to the Northam Urban District Council from Michaelmas, 1904. The total amount of royalties received from the council in respect of sand, etc., removed since the commencement of the lease has been £665, 19s. 3d.

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what is the total amount of money received by his Department in respect of dues on gravel taken from gravel beds situated in the estuary of the Taw and Torridge, in North Devon.

(Answered Mr. Kearley.) Under the terms of a lease, dated July 8th, 1900, granted by the Board of Trade to the Braunton Parish Council, royalty at the rate of 4d. per ton has to be paid to the Board on March 1st in each year, in respect of materials removed during the previous year. The total sum paid by the parish council up to the present, under the provisions of the lease in Question, in respect of the removal of gravel from the gravel beds referred to by the hon. Member, is £42 11s. 4d. No pay ment has been made by any other body or person.
