HC Deb 08 May 1905 vol 145 c1125
MR. CHANNING (Northamptonshire, E.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the Legislative Assembly of the Transvaal will have any power to amend or reject any amendments made by the Governor in any law, under Article X. of the proposed Constitution, or what course will be open to the Legislative Assembly, in the event of their dissenting from such amendment of a law; and whether any rules or orders in this matter have as yet been framed and will be laid before Parliament.

MR. LYTTELTON

The amendments made by the Governor are merely for the consideration of the Legislature. A similar provision exists in, e.g., the Constitution Act of the Commonwealth of Australia, Section 58. No rules or orders have been framed.
