I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he can state in how many instances since the 1st January, 1902, appointments have been made to judicial and other legal offices in the West African and other Colonies and Protectorates under the charge of the Colonial Office; and in how many of those instances have the appointees been members of the English, Scotch, and Irish Bars respectively.

Since the 1st January, 1902, twenty-four appointments to judicial and other legal offices in British Colonies and Protectorates have been made by the Secretary of State for the Colonies, of which twenty-three were gentlemen from the English and one from the Irish Bar.
