HC Deb 21 March 1905 vol 143 cc631-2
MR. NANNETTI

To ask the Secretary to the Board of Trade whether he can state if any report was made to the Board of Trade by the master of the British steamship "Spheroid," as provided by Section 425 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1894, respecting the accident which occurred on this steamer on September 16th, 1904, whereby a seaman named Bodtman was severely scalded in consequence of the defective condition of the ship's boiler; and, if not, whether the President of the Board of Trade will cause inquiry to be made.

(Answered by Mr. Bonar Law.) No report under Section 425 of the Merchant

the statistics in my possession do not distinguish between British and foreign seamen; the engagements and discharges at these ports were as follows:—

Shipping Act, 1894, has been received by the Board of Trade in the case to which the hon. Member refers, but I am informed that an entry of the accident by which a seaman was scalded last September was made in the official log. On the return of the "Spheroid" to the United Kingdom further inquiries shall be made.
