HC Deb 05 March 1903 vol 118 cc1545-6
MR. FREDERICK WILSON (Norfolk, Mid)

To ask the President of the Local Government Board whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that for different purposes each English county is divided into an administrative county, a registration county, and an old geographical county, with overlapping areas; and whether in future arrangements he can insure that a county, instead of having three or four different areas, shall have one for all purposes.

(Answered by Mr. Walter Long.) I am aware of the fact referred to in the first part of the Question. I agree that it is very desirable as far as practicable to avoid the overlapping of areas; but there are very considerable difficulties in the way of securing any such arrangement as that suggested by the hon. Member.
