HC Deb 27 April 1903 vol 121 cc463-4
MR. CHARLES HOBHOUSE

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India what was the amount of money expended from all sources on military expeditions in Somaliland and Juba land prior to 1898.

EARL PERCY

Prior to 1898 there were no disturbances necessitating expeditions in Juba land, but in Somaliland certain expeditions occurred from time to. time, of which the two more important were against the Aysa in 1889, and against the Aida Gallah in 1893. The cost of these expeditions is not separately shown in the accounts of the Protectorate or of the Government of India, but as the forces employed consisted exclusively of troops and police on the spot, the charge thus incurred was inconsiderable.
