HC Deb 06 April 1903 vol 120 c1104
MR. BRIGG (Yorkshire, W. R., Keighley)

To ask the Secretary to the Board of Education whether he will consider the advisability of taking steps to provide that, in places where county councils find that the supply of secondary education is inefficient, the trustees of endowed schools shall be required to assist the county councils to carry out their duty.

(Answered by Sir William Anson.) The existence of an endowed school in any locality provides for the supply of secondary education to the extent of the capacity of the school. The object which the hon. Member has in view would be better attained by arrangement between trustees and local authorities than by legislation which would enable local authorities to put compulsion upon the trustees.
