HC Deb 29 April 1901 vol 93 cc37-8
SIR JAMES FERGUSSON (Manchester, N.E.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether, in the case of a non-commissioned officer on active service reduced to the ranks and sentenced to imprisonment, the separation allowance made to his wife and family ceases entirely; and, if so, whether arrangements can be made to prevent the family from being left unprovided for.

THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY TO THE WAR OFFICE (Lord STANLEY, Lancashire, Westhoughton)

If a non-commissioned officer were reduced and sentenced to imprisonment exceeding three months, the issue of separation allowance would cease from the date on which the imprisonment was notified in this country.
