9. Mr. Powell

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he has received the report on the inquiry into the recent escape of prisoners from Newry courthouse; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Orme

An inquiry under the Prison Code of Discipline held on 26th March 1975 found two prison officers guilty of neglect of duty. My right hon. Friend is now awaiting their appeals against this finding.

Mr. Powell

When the appeal is disposed of will the Government make a statement covering the facts and the circumstances as found, since that would be the best way—if not the only way—o deal with the natural anxiety which this incident has caused?

Mr. Orme

The Government will certainly consider that point.
