HC Deb 31 March 1971 vol 814 c1498
40. Mr. Clinton Davis

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will pay an official visit to the London Borough of Hackney.

Mr. Peter Walker

I have at present no plans to do so.

Mr. Davis

Is the Secretary of State aware that there is a grotesquely inadequate public transport system in Hackney, that bus routes are being taken off, and that the proposed underground railway system is unlikely to be implemented for about 20 years? Should not the Ministry institute an inquiry having regard to the needs of this very large London borough?

Mr. Walker

On all these matters my Department is in close liaison with the borough concerned.
