HC Deb 04 November 1970 vol 805 c1060
7. Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether, having regard to the danger of the junction of Stag Lane and Roehampton Vale, S.W.15, and to the accidents and deaths that have occurred and to the unanimous request of those living in the area, he will give approval for the installation of traffic signals at this junction.

Mr. Michael Heseltine

Proposals for signals at this junction are the responsibility of the Greater London Council.

Mr. Jenkins

As this is well known to be one of the most dangerous exits on to a main road in London, which at present is entirely unprotected, may I ask the hon. Gentleman, in referring the matter to the G.L.C., to ask the Council to give serious attention to the unanimous demand of the people living at this point that it is high time that action was taken to reduce the number of deaths and accidents at this exit?

Mr. Heseltine

I am sure that the G.L.C. is aware of the local anxiety that exists about this matter. I understand that the right turn from Stag Lane into Roehampton Vale is to be prohibited and that, in the longer term, the improvements at Robin Hill Gate will benefit this junction.
