HC Deb 30 November 1966 vol 737 cc443-4
28. Mr. Molloy

asked the Postmaster-General what steps have been taken to investigate and improve the postal delivery service in the Hanger Hill area on which representations have been made to him by the hon. Member for Ealing, North.

Mr. Joseph Slater

I regret the mis-delivery of correspondence in the Hanger Hill area about which my hon. Friend wrote to my right hon. Friend. We have issued special instructions to the postmen about this and are keeping a close watch on the situation.

Mr. Molloy

I am grateful to my hon. Friend for that Reply and glad to hear that the situation is improved. Would he not agree that, as there were many written complaints about this area, some action should have been taken without it being necessary for me, as the Member of Parliament, to raise the matter personally with the Postmaster-General?

Mr. Slater

I appreciate my hon. Friend's comments, but this is what happens when constituents draw their M. P. 's attention to incorrect delivery. Human errors are the main cause of mis-delivery in the Post Office, which are very difficult to overcome entirely. Apart from the special instructions and checks, we take disciplinary action against postmen responsible for misdelivery, and this is constantly being checked.
