HC Deb 26 January 1966 vol 723 cc185-6
2. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many pupils are attending ordinary schools and State-aided schools, respectively, in the City of Aberdeen.

Mr. Ross

In November of last year 29,340 pupils were attending education authority schools, 2,295 were attending grant-aided schools and 172 were attending the College of Education Demonstration School.

Mr. Hughes

I thank the Secretary of State for that very satisfactory Answer, but may I suggest that he should make the schools under his authority as effective as possible so that the children may get the best out of their schools? What are his plans for doing this?

Mr. Ross

This is exactly what we are doing, and I am sure that we shall have plenty of opportunity to discuss the matter when we come to debate education problems.
