HC Deb 10 August 1966 vol 733 cc1682-3
21. Mr. William Edwards

asked the Minister of Transport what advice she has received from the Welsh Economic Planning Council about the Rouabon-Barmouth railway line.

Mr. John Morris

None, Sir. But my right hon. Friend will soon be asking the Council to comment on any planning implications which might arise from disposal of part of the route.

Mr. Edwards

Is my hon. Friend aware that there has been a great deal of uncertainty about this railway line which is of prime importance to Merioneth, a county which has grave transport problems that arise out of excessive traffic on the roads in the summer and very difficult climatic conditions in winter?

Mr. Morris

I am well aware of the transport problems in my hon. Friend's constituency. He will recall that the decision to close this line was taken by the previous Government in September, 1964.
