HC Deb 10 August 1966 vol 733 c1683
24. Mr. Elystan Morgan

asked the Minister of Transport what observations she has received from the Welsh Economic Planning Council with regard to the future of the Aberystwyth-Shrewsbury railway line.

Mr. John Morris

None Sir. As mentioned in paragraph 19 of the Government's White Paper, my right hon. Friend has asked the Council to let her have its views on the railway system as a whole in Wales.

Mr. Morgan

I am grateful to my hon. Friend, but will he bear in mind the very vital rôle that this line has to play in the transport structure of Mid-Wales?

Mr. Morris

I am aware of the rôle of this line, of the anxiety my hon. Friend has about communications in Wales and of his representations to me. But I want him to rest assured that I understand that there is no present intention by British Railways to put forward a closure proposal for the line.
