HC Deb 01 April 1963 vol 675 c3
4. Mr. Baird

asked the Minister of Health if he is satisfied that the number of hospital beds for maternity cases in Wolverhampton is adequate; and if he will make a statement on the steps he is taking to improve the situation.

The Minister of Health (Mr. Enoch Powell)

No, Sir; plans are well advanced for a new maternity unit of 146 beds at New Cross. Meanwhile, 13 more beds were opened last year at the Women's Hospital, and additional delivery rooms will shortly be provided there.

Mr. Baird

Do I take it that these are all maternity beds?

Mr. Powell indicated assent.
