§ 13. Mr. J. Hyndasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why the Customs checks to which travellers entering this country are subjected have recently become increasingly rigorous in contrast with the greater tolerance now being exercised by other European countries.
§ Mr. Selwyn LloydThere has been no change of policy or practice. If the hon. Member has any particular complaint, I shall be glad to look into it.
§ Mr. HyndIs not the Chancellor aware that it has been the experience of all travellers recently that greater stringency has been applied in Customs examinations in this country, contrasting very unfavourably with those in other European countries? If he wants samples of the kind of treatment I have referred to, I will he delighted to let him have them.
I also beg to give notice that I shall seek to raise this matter on the Adjournment at the earliest opportunity.
