HC Deb 28 February 1961 vol 635 cc1351-2
12. Mr. J. Hynd

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, in view of the fact that the supplies of Scotch whisky, now available are more than sufficient to provide both the home and export markets, and that the last two increases of duty were imposed to release supplies for export, whether he will now consider a relaxation of the duty.

Mr. Selwyn Lloyd

I cannot anticipate my Budget statement.

Mr. Hynd

Whilst the Chancellor cannot anticipate his Budget statement, can he at least tell the House whether the main reasons for the last two increases in duty have now gone and whether this will be a matter he will take into account seriously when considering duties in his Budget?

Mr. Lloyd

I cannot add to my reply.

Mr. Kershaw

Will my right hon. and learned Friend bear in mind the rising exports, the rising home consumption, and the rising profits of this industry?

Mr. Lloyd

I will certainly consider all these matters.
